Warranty Information

Medicare Supplier Standard 6 requires Collins Medical Equipment to honor all warranties under applicable state law, and to tell you what warranty coverage applies to your equipment. Collins will not charge you — or the Medicare program — for the repair or replacement of Medicare-covered items while they are under warranty.

Your warranty rights

Manufacturer warranty honored in full

Collins honors all manufacturer warranties that apply to the equipment we provide. The specific terms — length, coverage, limitations and exclusions — are set by the manufacturer and are included in the owner's manual. If the manual was not delivered with your equipment, call us on (203) 576-8642 and we will provide a copy.

Free repair or replacement during warranty

If your equipment fails or malfunctions during the manufacturer warranty period, Collins will repair or replace it at no cost to you — no labor fee, no service fee, no parts fee, including shipping to and from the manufacturer where required.

Free repair or replacement during Medicare rental

While your equipment is within a Medicare capped rental period, Collins is responsible for all maintenance and repairs at no charge, whether or not the item is still under manufacturer warranty. This applies to all capped rental items, and to oxygen during the applicable rental and maintenance period.

A comparable replacement while yours is repaired

If your equipment has to be taken out of service for repair and you still need it clinically, Collins will provide a comparable replacement item during the repair period at no cost to you.

After warranty and after title transfers

Once the manufacturer warranty has expired and Medicare rental has ended, or title has transferred to you, you own the equipment and are responsible for routine maintenance. We will still help you schedule service, obtain parts, or find an appropriate service provider.

No charge to Medicare during warranty

Collins does not charge the Medicare program for the repair or replacement of Medicare-covered items while they are under warranty. This is required by Medicare Supplier Standard 6.

How to request warranty service

Call (203) 576-8642 as soon as you notice a problem. Please do not attempt repairs yourself and do not take the equipment to an outside repair shop — doing either may void your warranty. Our staff will troubleshoot by phone and, if service is needed, arrange pickup, repair or replacement.

What is usually not covered

Manufacturer warranties typically do not cover the following. Check your specific owner's manual for the exact terms:

Damage caused by misuse, abuse, neglect or unauthorized modification.

Damage caused by not following the cleaning, maintenance or operating instructions.

Normal wear items — filters, tubing, masks, batteries, cushions — beyond their typical replacement interval.

Damage from accidents, fire, flood, pets, or other events outside normal home use.

Repairs performed by anyone other than Collins or a manufacturer-authorized service center.

Call us first. Even if an issue is not covered by the manufacturer warranty, Collins may still be responsible for the repair during the Medicare capped rental period. Always call us on (203) 576-8642 before assuming a repair is not covered.

Replacement supplies (resupply)

For equipment that uses consumable supplies — CPAP masks, tubing, filters, humidifier chambers, wound care supplies, enteral feeding supplies — Medicare and most insurance plans cover replacement supplies on a scheduled basis. Collins will contact you when you are eligible. You may also call us when your supplies run low, at about a two-week reserve.

Resupply is separate from warranty coverage. It is the routine replacement of items that wear out with normal use.
